It’s a beautiful thing when people in a community can come together in support of each other, and here at Nanoleaf we love to find ways to do just that! But what if the act of donating looked just as amazing as the thought? We’ve teamed up with the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and tiptap to bring beauty to the act, in more ways than one.

Keep on reading to learn more about it!

Who Is The Canadian Cancer Society?

Officially founded in 1938, the Canadian Cancer Society is an organization that is committed to improving and saving lives—for people with cancer and their families alike! With so many Canadians affected by this disease, what they do to help empower individuals to take control of cancer is crucial.

Every Spring for the last 70 years, the Canadian Cancer Society has launched the Daffodil campaign to raise funds for people affected by cancer. The daffodil is a symbol of strength, courage, and hope—every Spring it’s the first flower to bloom after our harsh Canadian Winters. With all of our recent struggles, now more than ever the daffodil is a reminder to come together and look forward to brighter days.

With the support of partners like donors and volunteers, the Canadian Cancer Society is able to provide support in a few different ways:

• Funding groundbreaking research

• Providing a compassionate national support system

• Advocating for healthy policies

• Offering trusted Cancer Information

How Is Nanoleaf Supporting the Canadian Cancer Society?

Nanoleaf is a smart lighting and tech company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario with a dedication to rethinking what’s possible and opening limitless possibilities for you to explore, create, and play.

As I mentioned at the start, Nanoleaf is dedicated to supporting and giving back to our community. With our playful lighting products, we’ve been able to instill a bit of joy into the many homes of our customers as well as partner with unique companies to bring life to their events and projects. We’re currently partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society for their annual Daffodil Campaign—creating art towards a good cause with an interactive daffodil installation right in the heart of Toronto inside of Union Station.

Nanoleaf has recreated a 9 ft wide and 7 ft high interactive daffodil with 231 Nanoleaf Shapes light panels to support the campaign—taking the Nanoleaf, Canadian Cancer Society, and tiptap teams 9 hours to piece it all together! When you visit this installation and donate, watch the instant impact of that donation as a ripple effect is sent across this giant daffodil.

Just as each Nanoleaf panel comes together to form this one seamless image, we can come together as a community to help hope bloom! Hope is more than a word, it’s an action and we intend to show that. Read on to see more on how and where to donate.

Donate and Play At Union Station

The Cancer Cancer Society will be hosting more than 200 locations all around the city for the Daffodil campaign and we’re very excited to share that you can find Nanoleaf’s daffodil installation inside Union Station starting Friday, April 1st.

For this installation, Nanoleaf is working with tiptap as well to make donating towards the Daffodil campaign as easy as a simple tap. With tiptap, touchless donations are made easier with their wireless and contactless payment receiver—each device accepts Visa, Mastercard, Interact, mobile payments wallet, and Amex. Simply tap your card and make a donation in denominations of $5, $10 or $20! Which is amazing because if we’re being honest no one really carries change anymore. Learn more about tiptap at tiptappay.com.

Donating is simple:

1. Find the Nanoleaf installation in Union Station at the entrance connected to the Royal Bank Plaza Toronto-Dominion Centre on the lower level (it’s a giant daffodil, so hard to miss 😋). NOTE: Location is represented as the red star on the map below.

2. Tap your card on the tiptap device.

3. Watch in awe as your donation makes a ripple effect illuminating across the Daffodil. It’s a unique way to see your impact instantly!

Who Benefits From Your Donations?

Donating to the Daffodil campaign will help to fund research and services that assist all Canadians affected by cancer and their families.

Cancer in Canadian is not uncommon, unfortunately:

  • • 2 in 5 Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
  • • Of those 2 in 5, approx. 1 in 4 Canadians is expected to die of the disease
  • • 28.2% of deaths in Canada are due to cancer, making it the leading cause of death

More specifically, your donation will go towards: fueling groundbreaking research that helps shape healthcare policies, supporting programs like the toll-free helpline, and making services like the wig program more accessible to communities across Canada.

So now you know who the Canadian Cancer Society is, how Nanoleaf is working with them, where to find this amazing interactive donation installation, and what you’ll be supporting with your donation. I guess the last question to answer is, can I count on seeing you at Union Station?
